Extreme-tested performance
From polar ice caps and mountain tops to uniforms
Ruskovilla has for decades been the choice not only of weekend hikers, but also of expedition communities heading for demanding conditions. Wearing brown wool has included skiing the Svalbard and Greenland, riding in Mannerheim's footsteps across Asia, conducting scientific research in Antarctica, and climbing El Capitan and Denali.
In extreme conditions, the right product choices matter, because no one wants to risk their lives testing how well products work. Organic wool has many advantages for its users: it has a curly structure that provides excellent thermal insulation, it stays warm even when damp, and it flexes comfortably when moving. Wool's natural properties include dirt repellency and odour neutralisation, which is important for long hikes and everyday use. In addition, compared to synthetic fibres, wool is extremely flame retardant, an important feature when handling open fires.
The superior properties of natural fibres are combined with product development in cooperation with our customers. An example is our outdoor camping gear made from 100% certified organic wool:
- No abrasive shoulder seams at all
- Thumbholes in the sleeves that extend to the knuckles
- High collar with zipper protected by wind flap
- Shirt with extended hem at the back
- Reinforced knit at the hair and knees
- Leg-length elasticated waistband
Our Finnish-made wool suits have been discovered by special forces of armies and rescue personnel around the world, as well as by film crews working in cold conditions. Not to mention the many police officers, security guards, fishermen and construction workers who put Ruskovilla under their uniforms every morning.
