Protect natural textiles from pests

Moths and carpet beetles are effective wool garment munchers that have spread into human dwellings, including new apartment buildings. Unfortunately, they cannot be eradicated simply by cleaning, and their presence is often only noticed once the first holes have appeared in wool garments. Moth holes are round, while carpet beetle holes are irregular in shape and close together.

Most wool products on the market have undergone chemical mothproofing treatments. These treatments are harmful to both the environment and human health, as chemicals can enter the body through the skin and respiratory system. Since organic standards prohibit the use of mothproofing agents, they have not been used in any of Ruskovilla's wool-containing products.

Tips for organic protection

Many moth repellents are toxic if ingested by children or pets, for example, and should not be used around pregnant women. They can also cause severe skin and eye irritation. Fortunately, there are gentler ways to get rid of pests.

1. Store in an airtight container

Store your wool and silk wool garment it in their original or other airtight plastic bag when they are not in regular use.

2. Freeze if necessary

Freezing for a few hours at temperatures above -20°C will kill both eggs and adults.

3. Hang red cedar rings

Red cedar oil naturally keeps pests at bay, and in addition red cedar rings also smell good

4. Use a safe glue trap

A volatile pheromone attracts male moths seeking to mate into the trap, where they become stuck to the adhesive, preventing the emergence of a new moth generation.
