We are proud to be the first to introduce certified organic silk garments to the Nordic market. The silk we use comes from an organic silk farm in Sichuan province in central China, which we have also visited. The silk is produced on the hillsides according to millennia-old traditions of diversified farming and craftsmanship.
Organic silk is the world's most luxurious textile fibre
The production of organic silk is an artisanal process involving many stages. Organic silk differs from silk produced in factory farming primarily in its quality: a single caterpillar feeding on the leaves of organically grown mulberry trees produces up to 1500 metres of uniform, high-quality filament silk from the leaves. From this superior filament silk Ruskovilla's organic silk garments are made.
Organic silk production
Silk is produced by mulberry silkworms that feed on the leaves of the mulberry tree. No artificial fertilisers or pesticides are used in organic silk production. In addition to mulberry, a wide variety of other crops are grown in rotation around the farm. This helps to maintain a more nutritious soil and provides a natural habitat for insects and animals in the midst of the crops.
Human well-being is also a priority. The farm ensures that workers have a safe, equal, and fair working environment, along with better earnings compared to industrial production.

Silk's lightweight and breathable protein fiber composition closely resembles human skin, making it exceptionally comfortable and barely noticeable when worn. Its smooth structure makes it suitable for allergy sufferers and those with sensitive skin who may react to other materials.
Silk absorbs moisture well without causing perspiration, making it ideal for summer and year-round wear – it feels wonderfully cool in hot weather and provides warmth in colder temperatures. Our subtly shimmering silk knit fabric is opaque, allowing our products to be worn as either underwear or standalone garments for everyday wear, work attire, and special occasions.
Manufacture of silk garments
Our silk is knitted close to its primary source in China. Once the silk knit arrives our sewing factory in Artjärvi, Finland, it's soon transformed to clothing and accessories for babies, children and adults by our skillfull professionals.
For us, every patch is important, and we make careful use of all precious materials. In the cutting stage, the patterns are carefully laid out to minimise waste and small pieces of silk are used to make baby underwear or mittens, for example. The smallest scraps are carded together with Finnsheep wool to make knitting yarns.

Discover our materials
The natural fibres we use in our garments, accessories and bedding - merino wool, silk, silk wool and cotton - are all certified organic. The raw materials come from our long-term and responsible suppliers, and to be certified they must not only care for nature, but also for the well-being of their workers.
Merino wool
The mulesing-free merino wool we use comes from reliable suppliers in Argentina and Uruguay. Smooth and unshrunk merino wool is only available from certain sheep breeds and from the fine underwool of sheep.
Silk wool
Our silk wool contains 70% organic merino wool and 30% natural silk. The long-fibre, extra fine quality merino wool comes from Argentina and Uruguay and the smooth silk from China.
Wool fleece
Wool fleece is made of 100% organic merino wool. The merino wool knit is brushed on both sides to a downy softness, so it feels comfortable even on bare skin. Wool fleece is a microplastic-free alternative to traditional synthetic fleece.
Cotton
Cotton is cool and breathable. Thanks to its smooth texture, unbleached and undyed cotton is particularly suitable for people with allergies and other sensitivities. Cotton is highly resistant to abrasion and can be washed repeatedly, even at high temperatures. It also absorbs moisture well.
