Product description
Valuable extra warmth for outdoors
Practical merino wool balaclava protects baby's head, ears and neck. It can be worn on its own or under another hat or a hood to provide the extra warmth needed.
Made from a smooth interlock knit, our flat-seam helmet cap will not itch or sweat. We produce baby balaclavas in two different sizes. The smaller size is generally suitable for newborns aged 0-3 months, while the larger size is suitable for babies aged 3-12 months.
Made from 100% certified organic undyed merino wool. Pure wool is breathable and keeps you warm even when damp. It neutralises odours and doesn’t require frequent washing. Pure wool is also a fire-safe material.
Handmade in Artjärvi, Finland. No need to wash before use.

Size guide
Knitted fabrics made from natural fibres are flexible and due to the properties of the material, product sizes may vary slightly. For this reason, we do not provide measurements of finished products, but size selection is based on your own body measurements.
The measurements in the table are given in centimetres (cm).
BABIES | 50 | 60 | 70 | 80 |
Indicative age | 0-2 months | 2-4 months | 6-8 months | 12 months |
Neck - wrist | 23 | 27 | 31 | 35 |
Waist circumference | 45 | 47 | 49 | 51 |
Inside leg length | 15 | 20 | 25 | 30 |
Head circumference | 33–37 | 37–41 | 41–45 | 45–49 |
This is how you measure:
- Measure over bare skin or thin underwear.
- The easiest way to measure is with a tape measure. Make sure the tape measure is straight.
- If the measurements fall between the two measurements on the measurement chart, we recommend taking a smaller size as the products are strethcy.
Tips for choosing your size:
- The measurements on the size chart are body measurements, which you can compare to find the right size.
- Our products are made to Finnish measurements, which means that they are generally a little looser than e.g. European sizes. If you are deciding between two sizes, a smaller size is probably sufficient if you prefer a more fitted look.
- Silk wool is more elastic than wool or silk, so keep this in mind, especially when selecting adult silk wool garments.
-
The knit of our wool products will slightly shrink when first washed. This is taken into account in the sizing, which is slightly loose before the first wash.

As we open the door and step inside the lower floor of the Old Dairy, the room is filled with a soft steady whir, paced by a faster buzz, click and then another buzz. Some twenty seamstresses are working. This is where the heart of Ruskovilla is.
To guarantee high quality, we have never wanted to outsource our production, but have made it transparent. Our products are designed and manufactured in Finland with over 40 years of experience. As a sign of this, our products have been awarded the Finnish Key Flag label.
