What is Re-Connecting Nature™ extract?

Re-Connecting Nature™ is a patented Finnish innovation that brings nature exposure into a range of consumer products. The extract contains a diverse bacterial community similar to that found in Finnish nature. It is manufactured by Uute Scientific Oy, a Finnish company whose vision is life without immune-mediated diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, atopic dermatitis, allergies and asthma.

An innovation based on science

Urbanisation and increased hygiene have significantly reduced the diversity of microbes on our skin. Exposure to the biodiversity of nature is essential for the education and development of the immune system. The reduction in microbial diversity is clearly linked to the sharp increase in immune-mediated diseases such as allergies, type 1 diabetes, coeliac disease, and asthma.

The Re-Connecting Nature™ microbe extract was developed at the Universities of Tampere and Helsinki. It is similar in composition to the rich microbial community found in forests and nature. By adding this forest dust as a raw material to various consumer products, such as cosmetics or textiles, safe exposure to nature can be brought into everyday life, also in an urban environment.

How does Re-Connecting Nature™ work?

The Re-Connecting Nature™ extract contains a diverse bacterial community, similar to that found in Finnish nature, in a safe form. The extract contains over 600 bacterial species and works through skin contact.

The surface of the skin contains defence receptors that recognise microbial components and their metabolites. When the product is applied to the skin, these receptors recognise the microbial particles that cause natural exposure and transmit the information on the skin surface to our body's defence system. This allows our defence system to learn and be trained by natural exposure.
