Merino wool

Warmth developed by sheep

The excellent thermal insulation properties of wool are based on its curly structure. The merino wool we use has a thickness of 18.5 microns, classified as extra fine. It's smooth on skin and doesn't itch.

Nature's own high tech

Wool regulates body temperature, breathes when you sweat and keeps you warm even when wet. Naturally antibacterial wool doesn't collect odours and freshens up with airing.

Certified organic merino wool

Our certified organic mulesing-free merino wool comes from South America. Organic certification guarantees sustainable and ethical wool production. The same strict criteria also guide further production.

Wool – warmth developed by sheep

Smooth and non-itchy merino wool is obtained only from certain breeds of sheep and from the fine undercoat of the sheep. Merino wool possesses all the superior qualities of wool, such as warmth and breathability, but due to its smoothness, it is also excellent for wearing directly against bare skin.

In our experience, the highest quality and most suitable merino wool for underwear material comes from merino sheep grazing in the southern hemisphere. Our mulesing-free organic merino wool comes from trusted suppliers in Argentina and Uruguay.

Nature's own high tec

Sheep have taken care of wool's product development for us, having lived for millennia in very diverse environments and weather conditions. Humans can also benefit from wool’s ability to keep warm in the cold and feel cool in the heat, thanks to its curly structure.

Especially in winter, it’s a good idea to wear warm and breathable merino wool as a thermal underwear against the skin. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture, such as sweat or rain, without feeling wet. Its surface is naturally antibacterial, dirt-repellent, and neutralises odours like sweat. Refreshing wool garments usually only requires airing, and washing is seldom needed. Compared to synthetic fibers, wool is also a very fire-resistant material – all essential qualities when choosing clothing for an active lifestyle.

Smooth and comfy merino wool

Merino wool's coarseness is indicated by its micron measurement, where a finer fibre causes less irritation to the skin. The fibre diameter of the merino wool we use is 18.5 microns, classified as extra fine, whereas e.g. Finnsheep wool ranges from approximately 24 to 31 microns in thickness.

The type of knit also affects how a garment feels on the skin. We manufacture most of our woollen underwear and accessories from 210 g/m² thick interlock knit, which is exceptionally smooth on both sides. The knit is opaque, making the garments suitable not only as underwear but also for wearing on their own at home and at work.

What is organic merino wool?

In organic production, the principle is to produce goods using methods that are not harmful to humans, animals, or the environment. The same strict criteria also govern the processing of organic raw materials.

The dyeing of organic wool is carried out in a closed system using reactive dyes, which burden the environment as little as possible. In this process, the fibre reacts completely with the dye, leaving no residues. Chrome dyes or heavy metal salts are not used in organic production. Additionally, we refrain from applying mothproofing treatments that are harmful to both people and the environment.

Manufacturing in Finland

The organic merino wool we use arrives in Finland as yarn from our suppliers in Germany and Italy, and is knitted for us by our long-term partners in Orivesi and Kangasala. After the knit arrives at our sewing factory in Artjärvi, our skilled professionals turn it into high-quality clothing and accessories.

For us, every patch is important, and we make careful use of precious material. Small pieces can be used, for example, to make baby mittens or patch material for mending clothes. All white scraps are shredded and carded into wadding for our wool-filled bedding, all made in Finland. The coloured patches are further processed for industrial applications, such as absorbents or carpet underlays.

Discover our materials

The natural fibres we use in our garments, accessories and bedding - merino wool, silk, silk wool and cotton - are all certified organic. The raw materials come from our long-term and responsible suppliers, and to be certified they must not only care for nature, but also for the well-being of their workers.

Silk wool

Our silk wool contains 70% organic merino wool and 30% natural silk. The long-fibre, extra fine quality merino wool comes from Argentina and Uruguay and the smooth silk from China.

Silk

We are proud that we were the first to introduce clothes made out of certified organic silk to the Nordic market. The silk we use comes from an organic silk farm in Sichuan province in central China, where we have also visited.

Wool fleece

Wool fleece is made of 100% organic merino wool. The merino wool knit is brushed on both sides to a downy softness, so it feels comfortable even on bare skin. Wool fleece is a microplastic-free alternative to traditional synthetic fleece.

Cotton

Cotton is cool and breathable. Thanks to its smooth texture, unbleached and undyed cotton is particularly suitable for people with allergies and sensitive skin. Cotton is highly resistant to abrasion and can be washed repeatedly, even at high temperatures. It also absorbs moisture well.
